I looked into the mirror and oh, the horror – 25 years old and still suffering from embarrassing bouts of acne like an adolescent.
I’ve tried an array of commercial products from the market over the years and nothing seems to work. If anything, it only makes it worse and it makes me broke.
That was until I stumbled upon this magical substance called JOBA JOBA oil. (I’ve heard that the ‘J’ is to be pronounced as a ‘Y’, but I’m not sure) The second I zapped this baby on my face, my self-esteem started to make a comeback.
Now, I know what you’re thinking, OIL? Surely if you have oily, acne-prone skin then you need to use oil free products, right? WRONG. Those oil-free products on your bathroom shelf dry out your skin. This stimulate it to produce more oil and therefore more spots. Even oily skin needs some kind of hydration and moisture, you just need the right type. Whatever you use, make sure the product is non-comedogenic. This means it won’t clog your pores. Ever since I’ve been using Joba Joba on my face, my skin is brighter, I’ve had no new break-outs and acne scars are fading away. I saw the greatest improvement in results within the first week. After that, things slowed down a little but I’m still using it religiously because my skin is glowing.
So what is Joba Joba oil?
- It’s a natural substance derived from a plant that’s native to South California and North Mexico.
- Anti-inflammatory – which explains why the redness on my face has died down.
- Moisturising – It works to seal in your skin’s natural moisture
- It’s antibacterial and antifungal
- It can be anti-ageing
What to get:
Make sure it’s 100% pure and cold pressed. Make sure it comes in a dark glass bottle as it won’t keep well in plastic. (And also, think about the environment!) I got a 50 ml bottle from Amazon. The brand is called ‘Naissance’ bu there are many others. It was £7.99 for 50ml which I think will last me 9-12 months.
How I apply:
Night: Put approx 5 drops into the palm of my hand and rub gently, all over my face after cleansing.
Day: Put approx 3 drops into the palm of my hand and rub gently, all over my face after cleansing. Follow with sunscreen.
DISCLAIMER: This is about my personal experience so it may not work for everyone. Although allergic reactions are extremely rare for this oil, as with anything else, you should conduct a patch test when using it for the first time.
